My string of turtles is flowering again and living its best life on the coffee table. I’m all for tools that make digging easier, especially in my heavy clay soil. Hand digging hundreds of spring blooming bulbs irritates the arthritis in my hands so I REALLY appreciate my Twist ‘n Plant auger from @power_planter and @provenwinners It does the hard work for me so that all I have to do is plop the bulbs in the holes. The only way this could be any easier is if I had one of the longer augers, then I wouldn’t have to squat at all. 💦 Before I store my hoses for the winter, I make sure to give all my recently planted (in the last three years) conifers a good drink.

💦 Thirsty conifers with unestablished root systems heading into winter are less likely to survive than those that receive a deep soak before the ground freezes.

💦 During the winter, conifers transpire or lose water through their needles. If they haven’t been watered thoroughly, desiccation can lead to death of the evergreen.
